Conference Description
The Advanced Materials for Sustainable Infrastructure Development GRS provides a unique forum for young doctoral and post-doctoral researchers to present their work, discuss new methods, cutting edge ideas, and pre-published data, as well as to build collaborative relationships with their peers. Experienced mentors and trainee moderators will facilitate active participation in scientific discussion to allow all attendees to be engaged participants rather than spectators.
The rising global population has put pressure on the demand for sustainable infrastructure, with construction materials such as cement and concrete being undeniably essential. With concrete production currently responsible for 8% of global anthropogenic CO2 emissions, drastic transformations are needed to achieve carbon neutrality in concrete by 2050. To address the environmental impact of construction materials, the main challenge is to find sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives that maintain structural integrity and safety. This GRS will focus on the utilization of alternative materials (I.e., waste sources), processes, and carbon capture technologies. Additional topics of discussion will be identifying and developing large-scale, resource-available, and energy-efficient solutions.
The 2024 GRS aims to engage early-career researchers and industry professionals involved in cement and concrete in exploring a range of topics, including innovative cementitious materials, infrastructure longevity and durability, sustainable solutions for developing countries, environmental assessment approaches in construction industry, and end-of-life management practices. Participation in this event presents a valuable opportunity for young researchers to engage in meaningful discussions and idea-sharing concerning the future of cement and concrete, as well as other innovative materials. The associated GRC follows the seminar, and applications are strongly encouraged. Financial support may be available to selected presenters and exceptional attendees traveling from abroad. For more information, please contact the conference organizers.
An outline of the program components for this GRS is displayed below. The seminar chair is currently developing their detailed program schedule, which will include the speakers they select from submitted abstracts, in addition to any additional components outlined below. The detailed program will be available by December 26, 2023. Please check back for updates.
