Interplay Between the RAAS and Other Hormonal Systems

Angiotensin II (Ang II), the key effector peptide of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) is a crucial regulator of cardiovascular and kidney health and a major player in many diseases. These processes involve complex interaction between the RAAS and other biological systems. The 2024 Gordon Research Conference (GRC) and Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) on Angiotensin focuses on the latest advances in the RAAS, from discovery science to clinical impact.

The 2024 GRC on Angiotensin will focus on cutting-edge science and innovation. In keeping with the latest evidence that hormonal and biological systems are tightly interconnected and interdependent, the theme of the 2024 Angiotensin GRC/GRS will be the interplay between the RAAS and other hormonal systems and how this influences interorgan communications from cell signaling to systems biology and the implications in drug discovery. We will bring together national and international experts working in the RAAS field. Emerging evidence clearly shows that hormonal systems do not work in isolation or only in one cell-type or organ, and that the interplay/crosstalk is critical. This involves highly complex and tightly regulated processes and will be addressed in great detail at the 2024 Angiotension GRC/GRS. Specifically we will discuss interactions between the RAAS and other hormonal systems, involving endothelin, aldosterone, kallikrein-kinin, and apelin and how this influences the immune system, the brain-metabolism axis, regulation of circadian rhythm, renal ion transport systems, aging and sexual dimorphism. We will discuss the mechanisms of systems crosstalk and its effects on inter-organelle and inter-organ communications to reveal the role of the RAAS across systems. This is especially important because growing evidence indicates extensive communication between distant organs in health and disease. Examples include axes between gut-brain, heart-kidneys, heart-brain, liver-heart, adipose-vascular, and immune-cardiovascular. Innovation spanning discovery science, clinical research, novel technologies and drug discovery will be shared at the meeting. Our scientific program is designed to attract a new broader community including scientists, clinical researchers, biomedical engineers, computational biologists and data scientists from across the world and will facilitate opportunities for networking between diverse disciplines.
