Conference Description

The Atomic and Molecular Interactions Gordon Conference is justifiably recognized for its broad scope, touching on interactions and reactions occurring in isolated molecules, clusters, solution, surfaces, interfaces, and biological systems. The meeting has traditionally involved scientists engaged in fundamental research in gas and condensed phases and those who apply these concepts to systems of practical chemical and physical interest. A key tradition in this meeting is the strong mix of theory and experiment and the dialogue it stimulates. The program for the 2014 conference continues these traditions. At the 2014 AMI GRC, there will be talks in several broadly defined and partially overlapping areas:

  • Combustion and renewable energy
  • Interactions and reactions in clusters and molecules
  • Radicals and hydrated electrons
  • Interactions and reactions at surfaces and interfaces
  • Dynamics and reactions in the condensed phase
  • Photochemistry and nonadiabatic dynamics
  • Interactions and dynamics in biological systems

These topics touch on a wide range of disciplines, grounded in physical chemistry, but reaching into molecular physics, biology, and energy-related science, to name a few. The Conference will bring together investigators who are at the forefront of the field, and it will provide opportunities for junior scientists and graduate students to present their work in poster format and exchange ideas with leaders in the field. Those wishing to present a poster should submit a brief abstract to the conference vice-chair. Some poster presenters will be selected for short talks. The collegial atmosphere of this Conference, with programmed discussion sessions as well as opportunities for informal gatherings in the afternoons and evenings, provides an avenue for scientists from different disciplines to brainstorm and promotes cross-disciplinary collaborations in the wide-ranging research areas represented.

This GRC will be held in conjunction with the "Atomic and Molecular Interactions" Gordon Research Seminar (GRS). Those interested in attending both meetings must submit an application for the GRS in addition to an application for the GRC. Refer to the associated GRS program page for more information.
