Conference Description
The Gordon Research Seminar on Barriers of the CNS is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting edge ideas.
The Barriers of the CNS Gordon Research Seminar offers an
excellent opportunity for young scientists to interact and network with peers
and experts in the brain barriers field in an informal environment. The 2016
meeting entitled "Involvement of the CNS barriers in health, drug discovery,
and disease", will focus on new research being conducted on various aspects of
the brain barriers field. While an intact blood-brain barrier is essential to
maintain CNS homeostasis, it also poses an obstacle to the effective delivery
of treatments for neurological diseases. Furthermore, disruption of this
barrier is also a hallmark feature of many disorders with great global importance. Understanding the mechanisms of this
disruption as well as ways to more efficiently deliver drugs to the CNS are
important to rationally design therapeutic interventions to treat these
diseases. The 2016 meeting will address new, cutting-edge research in these areas
and will offer participants the opportunity to engage in lively discussions,
thus advancing everyone's knowledge in the field.
The Seminar will also prepare young scientists to actively
participate in the Gordon Research Conference (Barriers of the CNS: key
interfaces between the nervous system and the rest of the body in health and
disease), which will be held from June 19-24.
