Reaching across Scales: From the Molecule to the Globe

The 2012 Biogenic Hydrocarbons and the Atmosphere Gordon Research Conference will present cutting-edge research of hydrocarbons released by vegetation and their atmospheric impacts. Biogenic hydrocarbons are incredibly important, not only for plant physiology and ecological interactions, but also for atmospheric chemistry and climate. The topics covered in this conference reach from plant biochemistry to canopy-atmosphere interactions to atmospheric chemistry and climate. This multi-disciplinary conference includes the participation of scientists from biology, plant physiology, ecology, chemistry, and atmospheric science. The Conference will bring together a collection of investigators who are at the forefront of their field, and will provide opportunities for junior scientists and graduate students to present their work in poster format and exchange ideas with leaders in the field. Further, a special session will provide a small group of early career scientists to give short oral research presentations. The collegial and inter-disciplinary atmosphere of this Conference, with programmed discussion sessions as well as opportunities for informal gatherings in the afternoons and evenings, provides an excellent venue for scientists from different disciplines to brainstorm and to develop collaborations across scientific fields.
