Bioinorganic chemistry covers a broad range of topics including, but not limited to, model complexes that mimic how a protein activates a substrate, studying how a particular organism deals with metal stress or deficiency, and biological sensors that utilize metal ions. The overlying theme, though, is the importance of metals and metal-ligand interactions in a biological context.

The Gordon Research Seminar in Bioinorganic Chemistry (GRS) was developed in 1996 in response to the consistent oversubscription of its “parent” meeting, the Gordon Research Conference on Metals in Biology (MIB). The two conferences overlap for one session with the GRS providing the concluding poster session for MIB. This is an excellent opportunity for young researchers to interact with leading principal investigators in the field.

This conference series has gained significant international recognition, attracting students from around the world. Given the multifaceted scope of this field, scientists new to this field of study are particularly benefited by interaction with researchers in other disciplines. We invite and encourage students from any sub-discipline in Bioinorganic Chemistry to submit abstracts for poster or oral presentations.

For those interested in attending, there will be two optional panel discussions at the conference: "Beyond the PhD: Getting and Succeeding in Your Postdoc" and "Beyond the PhD: Getting and Succeeding in Your First Academic Position".
