Exploring All Facets of the Inorganic Chemistry of Life

The Bioinorganic Chemistry Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) is actually the first GRS to have been created, in 1996, and serves as a student and postdoctoral extension of its parent Metals in Biology Gordon Research Conference (GRC). As the first GRS, it is unique in that it shares an evening session with the Metals in Biology conference, with a joint evening lecture and poster session that allows for valuable interaction between students, postdocs, and established leaders in the field.

The success of the Metals in Biology GRC has resulted in consistent oversubscription, which has in turn led to attendance at the Bioinorganic Chemistry GRS being even more highly sought after by students and postdocs. This creates an extremely vibrant and constantly evolving meeting, which can be counted upon to keep attendees on the cutting edge of new developments in the field, every single year. This year we are continuing this evolution of new ideas and contributions, and will truly be exploring all facets of the inorganic chemistry of life.

Bioinorganic chemistry encompasses a wide range of topics including metalloprotein structure and reactivity, metal transport and homeostasis, metals in the environment, and bioinorganic technique and application development. We invite and encourage students from any sub-discipline in Bioinorganic Chemistry to submit abstracts for poster or oral presentations. Questions may be directed to the 2016 Chair, Kelly Chacón, or to the 2016 Vice Chair, Lauren Rajakovich.

This year we would also like to encourage all GRS attendees to consider bringing their own reusable coffee mug, so as to reduce paper waste.
