Host-Pathogen Interactions During Pulmonary Health and Disease

The Gordon Research Seminar on Biology of Acute Respiratory Infection is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting-edge ideas.

Young adults are relatively immune to agents of respiratory infections that cause elevated morbidity and mortality in the extremities of life where the immune system is either immature or waning. Therefore, emphasis should be placed on the need to understand and harness learning abilities of the host immune system to sense, resist, tolerate, clear, and recover from respiratory infections. The meeting will focus on discussing diverse host-microbe interactions, mechanisms underlying remodeling and education of pulmonary immunity (both trained innate and adaptive immunity), and strategies for bolstering pulmonary immunity via anti-microbial, host immune-directed therapies, and vaccines.
