Molecular-Genetic Studies to Control Parasitic Diseases

The Gordon Research Seminar on the Biology of Host-Parasite Interactions is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting edge ideas.

The 2016 GRS on the Biology of Host-Parasite Interactions is focused on new molecular-genetic studies in parasitic diseases. The meeting will place special emphasis on cutting edge methodologies needed for molecular discovery and validation for new therapeutic strategies to control world-wide disease burdens of malaria, toxoplasmosis, trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis, amoebiasis and worm infections. The program will feature a broad range of topics including (i) Host parasite interactions in parasitic diseases with emphasis on signaling pathways, (ii) Discovery and mechanism of drugs and molecular basis of resistance and (iii) Leading molecular tools to validate targets, as well as mechanisms of infection and disease. The aim of the meeting is to bring together young scientists with special emphasis on early career scientists including advanced graduate students from endemic areas to develop new knowledge platforms critical for future control and elimination research. This GRS will offer unique opportunity to young scientists to build scientific acumen and peer networks to sustain competitive, world-class research in a stimulating atmosphere at the Salve Regina University Campus, Newport. All talks will be selected from submitted abstracts based on their findings. Students, post-docs and early career scientists are strongly encouraged to apply to the GRC and GRS. Special efforts are being made to raise funds to provide individuals from endemic countries with support.
