2012 is the 50th anniversary of the publication of Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring, the book that called attention to the devastation caused by what are now referred to as Environmental Endocrine Disruptors (EEDs). The 2012 GRC on EEDs will be held June 3-8, 2012 at the Mount Snow Resort, VT. The unifying goal for the 2012 conference is to link basic research, clinical investigation, epidemiological studies, and public health research to the real world environment. Session Topics are: EEDs, Society and Public Policy; Women’s Health and EEDs; Men’s Health and EEDs;.Gene-Environment Interactions, Epigenetics, and EEDs; Thyroid and Immune System Disruptors; Neuroendocrine Disruptors; Resolving Controversies in Endocrine Disruption; Evolution in a Contaminated Environment; and EEDs and Ecosystems: In Honor of Rachel Carson. The scientific presentations, discussions and poster sessions at this conference are designed to expand our understanding of the mechanisms by which endocrine disruptors may contribute to disease processes, including effects of developmental exposures on human health, epidemiological studies, outcomes for wildlife and ecosystems, and underlying mechanisms of action of endocrine disruptors. The collegial and cooperative atmosphere that has traditionally characterized the GRC on EEDs will provide the perfect setting for intellectual development and collegial discussions to further basic and biomedical research in this field. This year, a Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) will be held the day prior to the GRC, and we encourage applicants at the trainee level to apply to both meetings. The 2012 GRC will be a unique forum for learning about interdisciplinary, cutting-edge research on EEDs, and to see just how far we have come in the 50 years since Silent Spring.
