What Impact Is Our Work Having on the State of the Environment?

The theme of the 2006 Gordon Research Conference on Environmental Sciences: Water is in the form a question "What Impact is Our Work Having on the State of the Environment?". More specifically, how is the data/knowledge generated by the scientific community in the environmental arena being used to protect/improve our environment? Within each topic area, leading researchers will be challenged to address these questions from their own perspective. Topics to be addressed include: regulatory processes controlling chemical registration, biogeochemical processes controlling redox status in natural systems, ecotoxicology, trace metal speciation, environmental fate studies linking laboratory to field investigations, microbial degradation of organic contaminants, pollution in third world countries, and the environmental chemistry of complex chemical mixtures and nanomaterials. This Gordon Research Conference is expected to facilitate interaction among a diverse group of scientists and engineers in the fields of chemistry, geochemistry, microbiology, and toxicology.
