This new Gordon Research Conference is a combination of the former Gordon Conferences on Hormone Action, Hormones and Development, and Hormonal Carcinogenesis which have been discontinued. The focus of this conference will be on the role of steroid (nuclear) hormones in development and cancer with a focus on the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms of these processes. This new Gordon Conference will bring together cutting-edge experts in these areas with young investigators to discuss mechanistic concepts broadly across phyla and their translation to basic problems in development and cancer. The highly multidisciplinary and "transformational" environment that will be created during this meeting in formal and informal contexts is intended to result in cross-fertilization and development of significant new ideas. The program will include state-of-the-art discussions of important areas such as hormone action during early and pubertal development, steroid hormone receptors and modifiers of hormone action, steroid hormone metabolism, non-steroid nuclear receptors and non-nuclear steroid hormone receptors, the role of stromal-epithelial interactions, signaling and receptor cross-talk, non-genomic and epigenetic actions of hormones, genetic susceptibility to hormone-related cancer, environmental endocrine disrupting agents, hormonal agents in cancer prevention and therapy, and a wide range of model systems applicable to the study of hormone action in development and cancer.
