Conference Description
The Gordon-Kenan Research Seminar on Interior of the Earth is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting edge ideas.
The inaugural 2011 GRS on Interior of the Earth at Mount Holyoke College in Western Massachusetts will bring young scientists together for a program that will feature broad, cutting-edge, multi-disciplinary research on the physical and chemical state of the deep Earth and the processes that govern its evolution through time. Participation is expected to be broad, and includes (but is not limited to) those working in the fields of seismology, geodynamics and tectonics, geochemistry, geomagnetism and paleo-magnetism, mantle petrology, and mineral physics.
This meeting will take place over 2 days preceding the Gordon Research Conference (GRC) on Interior of the Earth, and the programs for both the GRS and GRC are coordinated (all GRS attendees are encouraged to apply for the GRC). The program will consist of a mixture of talks and poster presentations, and will allow ample time for both group and individual discussions. Because the meeting duration is short, the oral sessions will be more focused on topics surrounding the nature of the asthenosphere. Meeting applicants are required to submit at least one abstract, and will be expected to participate in all sessions. We expect to be able to provide partial support for travel and registration expenses.
