Conference Description
The Intermediate Filaments GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes a diverse range of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organizations worldwide, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.
Intermediate filaments form cytosolic or nuclear networks that support cell shape and function. Each cell type in the body expresses a combination of cell-type specific intermediate filament proteins that changes during development and in disease. Mutations in genes encoding intermediate filaments and changes in intermediate filament composition are causal to or associated with many diseases, from degenerative striated muscle and brain diseases to inflammatory diseases, skin diseases, and various cancers.
This Gordon Research Conference (GRC) brings together researchers from a broad range of disciplines to highlight recent advances and new approaches relevant to the intermediate filament field. The GRC is instrumental in initiating new ideas and collaborations, deepening the understanding of the physics and biology of intermediate filaments, and unraveling their role in cell physiology and diseases. With the GRC and the accompanying Gordon Research Seminar (GRS), we aim to recruit and promote talented early-stage and established new investigators into the intermediate filament field, providing them with cutting-edge scientific presentations, mentorship, and networking opportunities. We invite scientists from cell biology, biophysics, mechanobiology, biomedical engineering, and translational and clinical research to attend this meeting to apply their expertise and stimulate their interest in intermediate filament biology.
The topics, speakers, and discussion leaders for the conference sessions are displayed below. The conference chair is currently developing their detailed program, which will include the complete meeting schedule, as well as the talk titles for all speakers. The detailed program will be available by February 17, 2024. Please check back for updates.
