Liquid Crystalline Molecules and Assemblies: Enabling Contemporary Function Spanning Length Scales

The two-day seminar for early-career scientists and engineers will be composed of oral and poster sessions aimed at exchanging ideas and forming new collaborations at new frontiers in the theory, experimental science, and applications of liquid crystals. The topics that will be particularly featured include: (1) biological and biomimetic liquid crystals in medicine, nature, and active systems, (2) the simulation and theory of behavior and self-assembly in liquid crystalline architectures, and (3) advanced engineering of liquid crystals, including colloidal and elastomeric materials, for applications in energy, optics, robotics, and medical science.

The Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) (preceding the corresponding Gordon Research Conference) is a two-day conference for graduate students, postdocs, and other early career scientists that is particularly distinguished by its focus on career advice and mentorship. To support these aims, the GRS features a keynote speaker as well as a panel of career mentors. The keynote and mentor panel features individuals who are excellent mentors and researchers in the liquid crystal sciences. These diverse researchers include both early and senior career scientists from career paths including industry, academia, and national laboratories.
