Science Driving Malaria Interventions and Elimination Strategies

Despite significant reductions in the global malaria burden in the last decade, achieving global malaria eradication depends on the development of novel tools and strategies. A more thorough understanding of the complex relationships between the parasite, the human host, and the mosquito vector is needed. The 2023 Malaria GRS will provide an opportunity for early career investigators to present unpublished work on topics including the biology of Plasmodium parasites, vector biology, host-parasite interactions, immune responses, molecular mechanisms of virulence and resistance, pathophysiology, epidemiology, asymptomatic reservoirs, and transmission dynamics. All participants will have the opportunity to present either a poster or short talk.

By providing a forum to discuss cutting edge malaria research, we hope to stimulate innovative ideas, collaborations and new research directions that will translate to novel drugs, vaccines, and other clinical applications. The seminar’s collegial atmosphere and focus on graduate students, post-docs, and other junior scientists will further strengthen community among attendees. We will particularly work to support and encourage participation by researchers from malaria endemic countries, including making travel awards available. Scientific discussions, as well as a career development panel, will be facilitated by selected junior scientists and senior scientist mentors.
