Conference Description
The Mechanisms of Epilepsy and Neuronal Synchronization GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes a diverse range of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organizations worldwide, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.
Epilepsies are multifactorial spectrum of disorders which evolves over time. This GRC seeks to advance our understanding the diverse underlying processes that transform a seemingly normal brain to “dynamically” develop sudden unprovoked and recurrent episodes of abnormal hypersynchronous activity. Presentations will highlight current advances in studying the multiscale processes involved in epileptogenesis, from alterations in genetic and molecular profiles to changes in cellular, neurovascular, neuroimmune, microcircuit and network function which contribute to development of epilepsy and comorbid disorders that impact patient quality of life. Discussions will explore dynamic interactions between multiple complex systems including network physiology, cell and immune signaling, metabolic processes and transcriptomic changes at different stages of the disease, and how they can be targeted as biomarkers or therapeutically. This GRC will bring together scientists of diverse backgrounds at all career stages from within and outside the field for interactive and stimulating discussions to advance epilepsy research and ultimately impact patient care.
The conference chair is currently developing their preliminary program, which will include 9 sessions and the names of the invited speakers and discussion leaders for each of these sessions. Please check back regularly for updates to this information.
