Conference Description
The Muscle: Excitation-Contraction Coupling GRS provides a unique forum for young doctoral and post-doctoral researchers to present their work, discuss new methods, cutting edge ideas, and pre-published data, as well as to build collaborative relationships with their peers. Experienced mentors and trainee moderators will facilitate active participation in scientific discussion to allow all attendees to be engaged participants rather than spectators.
EC coupling is the fundamental mechanism by which action potentials are converted into contractile force in muscle cells. To advance the leading edge of EC coupling research and to perpetuate the ongoing excellence in the field, the EC Coupling GRS aims to offer an unparalleled friendly and inclusive environment for young investigators, the future of the field, to discover unique scientific opportunities and to establish prolific international research collaborations. The 2025 GRS will emphasize current ideas and integrative insights on the inner mechanistic workings of EC coupling in skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscles. The comprehensive range of topics will include molecular structure and function, regulation at the subcellular level, breakthroughs in understanding of mechanisms underlying physiology and disease, and next generation strategies for translational research and therapy. The Seminar features a Keynote Lecture from a renowned EC coupling expert as well as multiple sessions to discuss research findings from early career investigators. Speakers and discussion leaders for these sessions will be selected from submitted abstracts. As in previous installments, the 2025 GRS will also feature a Mentoring Component in which established scientists will share their vision for the future of the field and address key questions on career development and funding success pertinent to early stage scientists.
Application Instructions
The seminar will feature approximately 10 talks and 2 poster sessions. All attendees are expected to actively participate in the GRS, either by giving an oral presentation or presenting a poster. Therefore, all applications must include an abstract.
The seminar chair will select speakers from abstracts submitted by February 23, 2025. Those applicants who are not chosen for talks and those who apply after the deadline to be considered for an oral presentation will be expected to present a poster. In order to participate, you must submit an application by the date indicated in the Application Information section above.
Program Format
Gordon Research Seminars are 2-day meetings which take place on the Saturday and Sunday just prior to the start of the associated GRC. The GRS opens with a 1-hour introductory session on Saturday afternoon, followed by a poster session, dinner and a 2-hour session in the evening. Sunday morning begins with breakfast and is followed by another 2-hour session, a second poster session, and lunch. A final 1-hour session takes place just after lunch, and the associated GRC begins later that evening.
An outline of the program components for this GRS is displayed below. The seminar chair is currently developing their detailed program schedule, which will include the speakers they select from submitted abstracts, in addition to any additional components outlined below. The detailed program will be available by April 1, 2025. Please check back for updates.
