Conference Description
The Musculoskeletal Biology and Bioengineering GRS provides a unique forum for young doctoral and post-doctoral researchers to present their work, discuss new methods, cutting edge ideas, and pre-published data, as well as to build collaborative relationships with their peers. Experienced mentors and trainee moderators will facilitate active participation in scientific discussion to allow all attendees to be engaged participants rather than spectators.
The theme of the GRS will be “Integrating Diverse and Multidisciplinary Approaches to Musculoskeletal Health” which expands on and integrates the key themes of the GRC. The GRS will focus on mentorship and career development for our attendees (post-baccalaureate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and other junior scientists). Specifically, we will highlight common barriers in academic and clinical life by focusing on the perspective of career trajectories told through the lens of personal and professional challenges. This theme will be explored scientifically by highlighting multidisciplinary and cutting-edge research that uses novel methods and techniques to study the development, aging, and disease of musculoskeletal tissues with biological, engineering, and clinical approaches. The content of the scientific sessions will be selected from abstracts submitted by GRS attendees. Musculoskeletal investigators in academia and medicine across different career stages and disciplines will be invited to share their insights on the challenges and current & future directions of the musculoskeletal research field to enrich the professional development of our junior investigators. We will include a diverse mentorship panel to provide our junior investigators with advice, insights, and strategies to help guide their future career transitions.
Application Instructions
The seminar will feature approximately 10 talks and 2 poster sessions. All attendees are expected to actively participate in the GRS, either by giving an oral presentation or presenting a poster. Therefore, all applications must include an abstract.
The seminar chair will select speakers from abstracts submitted by April 28, 2024. Those applicants who are not chosen for talks and those who apply after the deadline to be considered for an oral presentation will be expected to present a poster. In order to participate, you must submit an application by the date indicated in the Application Information section above.
Program Format
Gordon Research Seminars are 2-day meetings which take place on the Saturday and Sunday just prior to the start of the associated GRC. The GRS opens with a 1-hour introductory session on Saturday afternoon, followed by a poster session, dinner and a 2-hour session in the evening. Sunday morning begins with breakfast and is followed by another 2-hour session, a second poster session, and lunch. A final 1-hour session takes place just after lunch, and the associated GRC begins later that evening.
An outline of the program components for this GRS is displayed below. The seminar chair is currently developing their detailed program schedule, which will include the speakers they select from submitted abstracts, in addition to any additional components outlined below. The detailed program will be available by June 4, 2024. Please check back for updates.
