The Mutagenesis GRS provides a unique forum for young doctoral and post-doctoral researchers to present their work, discuss new methods, cutting edge ideas, and pre-published data, as well as to build collaborative relationships with their peers. Experienced mentors and trainee moderators will facilitate active participation in scientific discussion to allow all attendees to be engaged participants rather than spectators.
In June 2024, the 4th Mutagenesis GRS will be held to provide cutting-edge presentations on mutagenesis research from young scientists from all over the world (PhD and post-doctoral fellows). This international seminar focuses on advancing scientific knowledge by sharing cutting-edge and unpublished research on the causes and consequences of mutations. The genome of any organism is constantly under endo- and exogenous attack, which can alter the genetic code. Such alterations can lead to various diseases such as cancer and the development of antimicrobial resistance. The underlying mechanism of mutagenesis is a key factor to understand disease development and treatment.
The Mutagenesis GRS will bring together junior scientists from diverse backgrounds, allowing them to discuss their fascinating research and form a cohesive network for the next generation of scientists. During this seminar, 12 student presentations will be selected to present their work, and each presentation will be followed by a fair amount of time for discussion. Poster presentations will also be held, allowing every student to talk about their research project. During Mutagenesis GRS, we also will welcome a senior keynote speaker and a discussion panel: “Scientific career questions? Ask our panel!” - along with 3 senior scientists (senior scientists to be determined).
Our two major objectives for the 4th Mutagenesis GRS are:
1- To allow young scientists to discuss science together in a low-pressure environment.
2- To bring together these young scientists and form a dynamic and strong network for the next generation of scientists.
As this two-day seminar is held before the Mutagenesis Gordon Research Conference, which brings together both junior and senior scientists, we believe that the 4th Mutagenesis GRS is essential to help students get familiar with each other, release pressure, and practice their talks. As the young scientists present in this seminar are the next scientists leading mutagenesis research, creating a strong network is essential to us. Such connections will be a fundamental asset to allow diversity and collaboration for their following career.
Application Instructions
The seminar will feature approximately 10 talks and 2 poster sessions. All attendees are expected to actively participate in the GRS, either by giving an oral presentation or presenting a poster. Therefore, all applications must include an abstract.
The seminar chair will select speakers from abstracts submitted by March 10, 2024. Those applicants who are not chosen for talks and those who apply after the deadline to be considered for an oral presentation will be expected to present a poster. In order to participate, you must submit an application by the date indicated in the Application Information section above.
Program Format
Gordon Research Seminars are 2-day meetings which take place on the Saturday and Sunday just prior to the start of the associated GRC. The GRS opens with a 1-hour introductory session on Saturday afternoon, followed by a poster session, dinner and a 2-hour session in the evening. Sunday morning begins with breakfast and is followed by another 2-hour session, a second poster session, and lunch. A final 1-hour session takes place just after lunch, and the associated GRC begins later that evening.
