From Catalytic Processes to Chemical Biology

The 2014 Gordon Research Conference (GRC) on Organic Reactions and Processes, chaired by Joseph M. Fox (University of Delaware) and Doug E. Frantz (The University of Texas at San Antonio), will mark its 61st consecutive year of highlighting outstanding contributions to synthetic organic chemistry. This GRC conference has a long-standing tradition of bringing a diverse group of scientists from both industry and academia who share a common interest in discussing and sharing the latest developments in synthetic organic chemistry.

The conference this year will provide several devoted sessions to modern transformations in organic chemistry that will encompass both traditional and contemporary topics such as industrial process chemistry, natural product total synthesis, catalytic activation of inert bonds, new methodology development and reaction mechanisms. In addition, a separate chemical biology session will focus on the discovery and development of molecular probes to delineate biological mechanisms relevant to human disease. Overall, each session will provide chemistry that is relevant to seasoned scientists as well as students both from academic and industrial laboratories. Furthermore, a focused effort this year has ensured the program will be a blended mix of speakers that are both well-established and emerging young scientists from academia and industry. Finally, one of the most important activities of this conference is its outstanding and highly energetic poster sessions. Thus, attendees are strongly encouraged to submit a poster abstract at the time of their applications. Posters will represent the same diversity of organic chemistry that contributes to organic reactions and processes. As an incentive to participate in the poster session, a subset of the posters will be selected to present short oral talks on Thursday morning providing an outstanding opportunity to share your research with leaders in the field of organic chemistry.

The 2014 conference will again be held at Bryant University, Smithfield, RI, on July 13-18. This meeting site has been exceptional in hosting the Organic Reactions and Processes Gordon Research Conference.
