Self-Organization and Complexity

The GRC on Oscillations and Dynamic Instabilities in Chemical Systems will focus on emergent phenomena from self-organization. It will present cutting-edge research on the nonlinear dynamics of chemical and biological systems far from thermodynamic equilibrium. It includes theoretical and experimental studies of kinetic oscillations, concentration waves and other spatial patterns, deterministic chaos as well as collective behavior. Various forms of transport processes, like diffusion and convection play an important role in these phenomena leading to both short and long range interactions. This truly interdisciplinary meeting will draw scientists leading in their fields from not only chemistry but also mathematics, physics, biology, and chemical engineering. For the first time, we will organize a Gordon Research Seminar during the weekend preceding the GRC, primarily for graduate students and postdocs. Combined with GRS, this conference will provide an excellent opportunity for young scientists and graduate students to present their work in poster format, some of which will be selected for short talks, and to have lively discussions with senior colleagues. The collegial atmosphere of this conference will offer ample opportunities for informal gatherings in the afternoons and evenings, provide avenues for scientists from different disciplines to brainstorm, and promote cross-disciplinary collaborations.
