Proteolysis has emerged as an essential mechanism of major biological processes, ranging from development to metabolism, and dysregulation of proteolytic pathways has been clearly linked to disease. The Gordon Conference on Proteolytic Enzymes and Their Inhibitors provides an international forum for presentation and discussion of the most significant, recent advances in protease research. A broad range of topics is planned, including fundamental roles in biology, mechanism and structure, technological advances, and new therapeutic opportunities in protease inhibition. The specific aim of the meeting is to bring together investigators working in diverse areas of protease research in both academia and industry, and to provide opportunities for participants to learn about science, and establish collaborations, that will be relevant to their work.

As in past meetings, poster sessions will continue to provide a vibrant and collegial environment for the presentation and discussion of new science. If you are not participating as an invited speaker, we strongly encourage you to present a poster. In 2004, we will be selecting a small number of posters for brief presentations at the Thursday evening session.

The conference will continue the tradition of excellent science presented in a relaxed atmosphere, and several recreational and social events are planned. Nancy Thornberry (Chair) and Roy Black (Vice-Chair) will be your hosts for this meeting, and are looking forward to an outstanding conference in 2004.
