Conference Description
The Sleep Regulation and Function GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes a diverse range of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organizations worldwide, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.
The 2024 Sleep Regulation and Function: Dynamics Across Vigilance States will be the fifth Sleep GRC. The field of sleep research has enjoyed an increase in interest across a wide range of academic research disciplines ranging from molecular biology to data science. Sleep is not studied in insolation, i.e., as a state in itself, but as part of the alternation between sleep and wakefulness. Sleep is not a homogenous state; apart from the alternation between NREM and REM sleep, there are profound dynamic changes within these two states. It is felt that a quantitative description and understanding of these dynamics at various levels of organization will provide better insights in sleep’s function and regulation. The program will cover: The dynamic life of synapses; REM sleep dynamics, models and dreams; Quantifying EEG oscillations, dynamics and their functional and physiological correlates; Molecular and functional correlates of sleep and sleep loss in rodents and flies; Activation, reactivation and the role of sleep and sleep circuits in motor learning; Extracting sleep and circadian parameters from big and longitudinal data; Modulating remembering and forgetting by sleep and neuromodulation; Microglial dynamics across the sleep-wake cycle and the Locus coeruleus, sleep and attention.
The topics, speakers, and discussion leaders for the conference sessions are displayed below. The conference chair is currently developing their detailed program, which will include the complete meeting schedule, as well as the talk titles for all speakers. The detailed program will be available by November 4, 2023. Please check back for updates.
