Conference Description
The Spin Dynamics in Nanostructures GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes a diverse range of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organizations worldwide, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.
While in a textbook example magnetic ordering is governed by exchange interactions with spin-orbit interaction being just a small correction, in low dimension (surface, interfaces, 2D materials) and in low symmetry specimens spin-orbit interaction shows up in the leading order of the Hamiltonian. As a result, spin and orbital degrees of freedom get intertwined yielding CISS- and orbitronic phenomena, magnetic structure is defined by competing interactions leading to complexity, exotic such as skyrmions and hopfions emerge, topology starts to play a decisive role in physics models, and even the unconventional type of ordering - altermagnetic - emerges.
The 2025 GRC Spin Dynamics in Nanostructures is dedicated to the recent and the most counter-intuitive examples of magnetism and spin dynamics in these systems as well as to applications of this fundamental research in alternative data storage, memory and computing hard-ware based systems, with paradigms that go beyond the von Neumann computing (stochastic computing, reservoir computing, neuromorphic computing, superconducting computing, quantum computing etc).
The topics, speakers, and discussion leaders for the conference sessions are displayed below. The conference chair is currently developing their detailed program, which will include the complete meeting schedule, as well as the talk titles for all speakers. The detailed program will be available by March 1, 2025. Please check back for updates.
