Exploring the Intersection of Stem Cell and Cancer Biology

The Gordon Research Seminar on Stem Cells & Cancer is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting edge ideas.

There is a fine line between normal development, regeneration, and cancer. Understanding the unique features of stem cells, such as their ability to self renew and to generate multiple distinct terminally differentiated cell types, has clear implications in the realm of cancer, where transformed cells can manifest such features. Similarly, improved knowledge of cell growth control, metabolic regulation, niche interactions, and fate alterations in cancer inform our understanding of the uniqueness of a stem cell. In this meeting, we will explore the intersection of stem cell and cancer biology, and challenge the implications current findings have on our understanding of both fields.

Additionally, the chair of the associated GRC, Len Zon, plans to select 2 talks from the GRS to be presented again as short talks in the following GRC.
