Conference Description
The Thalamocortical Interactions GRS is a 2-day event held before the associated Gordon Research Conference, and it is organized by and for young investigators (priority for graduate students and post-docs), designed to help explore recent advances in the field, discuss and receive feedback on research, network with peers, and promote career development.
The focus of the 2020 GRS is on thalamocortical interactions and their role in brain function, dysfunction, and their promise as a target for neurological disorders. The seminar will feature 3 scientific oral presentation sessions, 2 poster sessions, and 1 career development session. Two scientific oral presentation sessions will be dedicated to the exciting new areas of thalamocortical research including higher order processing and behavioral states (including arousal, attention, and sleep), while the third session will focus on translational research.
The seminar will be hosting a career development session titled "Academia and Beyond", which will have a panel of 3-4 mentors from different career stages and tracts - where they can provide their experiences and advice on transitioning from graduate students or post docs into the job market. This session will focus primarily on career choices and transitions outside of academia. The session will consist of panel and group discussions, allowing young scientists to explore diverse career choices and foster cross discipline communication and research.
With the GRS's small and intimate atmosphere, participants will have the opportunity to make personal connections and network with people in their field, share and exchange ideas, find potential collaborators, and learn how to be successful scientists.
