Interactions in Cooperative Systems Studied by Ultrafast Excitation of Collective Modes

The Gordon Research Seminar on Ultrafast Phenomena in Cooperative Systems is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting edge ideas.

The focus of this meeting is to explore the nature of the interactions which are responsible for coupling different degrees of freedom in cooperative systems, and for eventually defining their complex phase diagrams. Such a challenge can now be tackled via combinations of the new ultrafast techniques which have been at the core of previous editions on the seminar, and which can be chosen in such a way to selectively drive and follow specific responses of the materials across the electromagnetic spectrum. This approach is essential to understand a diverse range of systems in quantum condensed matter, e.g. two-dimensional materials, correlated electron materials, ferroic systems, topological phases. It can also be used to explore synthetic quantum systems such as exciton-polaritons, metamaterials, and heterostructures. The specific list of topics will, as usual, depend on the range of abstracts submitted.
