Establishing a Visual System: From Retinal Cell Fate to Higher Order Connectivity and Processing

The Gordon Research Seminar on Visual System Development is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting edge ideas. This immersive, two-day meeting is specifically designed to create a personal atmosphere in which the future leaders of vision research can connect and communicate freely. Attendance at the Visual System Development GRS is a highly recommended prelude to the GRC.

Featured in the 2022 Visual System Development GRS will be a keynote from prominent visual system developmental neuroscientist Dr. David Feldheim (University of California, Santa Cruz) on “Map formation and alignment in the superior colliculus”. The in-person meeting will highlight emerging topics on the development, physiology, and maintenance of the visual system both within the eye and in the brain. The GRS includes two sessions featuring a total of eight speakers (to be selected from submitted abstracts), two 90-minute poster sessions, and a mentorship component on “The fast track to success as a new PI: how to efficiently navigate the early years of the tenure clock”. These dedicated formal and informal discussion sessions are designed to foster collaborations, build relationships in the field, and provide opportunities to gather advice at pivotal points in the careers of young investigators.
