Assembly and Function of Bacterial Surfaces from the Molecular to Intercellular Scales

The Bacterial Cell Surfaces GRC has always prided itself on emphasizing the work of junior scientists. This year, for the first time, a Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) will be held alongside this conference. The GRS is a meeting run by junior investigators, for junior investigators. This seminar will bring together post-docs and graduate students in a stimulating yet relaxed environment, ideal for fostering collaborations, networking with colleagues, and conceiving new research directions. Seminar attendees will be able to present their work to their peers in an intimate setting prior to the larger GRC meeting.

Like the associated conference, the GRS is broad in scope, but focused on the cell surface. Topics include (but are not limited to) envelope biogenesis, maintenance, and degradation; transport of small molecules, proteins, and other polymers; transduction of chemical and mechanical signals; cell division and morphogenesis; and compartmentalization, subcellular localization, and surface structures. Consequently, this seminar will unite cell biologists, geneticists, biochemists, microscopy and imaging specialists, structural biologists, and more. Contributors to the GRS are strongly encouraged to present their work at the GRC, which will immediately follow the GRS.
