ADME Sciences at the Center of Drug Research: Making Better New Drugs and Using Old Drugs Better

The field of drug metabolism has considerably expanded over the past 40 years to include many facets of ADME (absorption-distribution-metabolism-excretion) sciences beyond metabolism. The study of ADME sciences has the ultimate goal of making advances that help the cause of pharmacotherapy for better health. The 41st Gordon Research Conference on Drug Metabolism in 2011 will focus on current research in ADME sciences and how this is leveraged, in concert with related scientific disciplines, to improve pharmacotherapy. This is reflected in the title: “ADME Sciences at the Center of Drug Research: Making Better New Drugs and Using Old Drugs Better.” The program will consist of a keynote lecture by a preeminent ADME scientist the first evening and seven sessions in the mornings and evenings in which we will cover the latest ADME research, with each session focused on how it enhances the research of related drug research disciplines (e.g. pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, toxicology, etc.). We will also have the highly successful special session on Wednesday evening in which six graduate students and postdoctoral fellows will make oral presentations on cutting edge research selected from the outstanding posters submitted. The poster sessions will be organized by Vice Chair Erin Schuetz, and participants are encouraged to submit poster presentations. For over 40 years, the Drug Metabolism GRC has offered a unique collegial atmosphere for the exchange of ideas and research in the area of drug metabolism and related disciplines. Finally, the conference time and location (summer in rural New Hampshire) along with the afternoons left open offers the opportunity for conference participants to enjoy outdoor recreational activities.
