Chemistry is often referred to as the central discipline, one which effectively interfaces in numerous ways with many of the modern developments in science and engineering. Within chemistry, stereochemistry is not only a focal point but also represents an intersection of the various roads leading to and from biology, materials science, synthesis, and medicine. The Gordon Research Conference on Stereochemistry provides a unique forum for the discussion of the modern discoveries and intellectual advances pertaining to this most relevant, timely topic. It is a topic that ignites interest at both the theoretical and applied level in academia and industry. In dealing with stereochemical problems in its various incarnations chemists, biochemists, and biologist stand to gain new insight into molecular structure and properties that have fundamental and economic relevance.

This year’s conference has been focused on two important areas whose developments are at the cutting edge of advances in stereochemistry: asymmetric synthesis and bioorganic chemistry. The selection of speakers in each of these disciplines was carried out with special emphasis to represent the very latest in mechanistic and structural aspects of chemistry and biology with stereochemistry at its core. The number of speakers has been purposefully kept lower than is typical for a GRC conference in order to provide speakers generous time to present the latest discoveries and to promote interaction. It is the hope of the organizers that it is not the ticking of the clock that moves the conference forward on a day to day basis, but rather a healthy exchange of ideas and discussion that are expected to emanate from the presentations.

The usual oral presentations are scheduled into either of two time slots: 40 and 55 minutes. There will also be poster sessions scheduled in the late afternoons. Additionally, short discussions will be scheduled of selected posters from attendees in both academia and industry.
